Sr. Medhin Tesfay, Director of the Daughters of Charity (DOC) in Tigray, has been honored with the Lorenz Werthmann Medal by the German Caritas Association in recognition of her extraordinary commitment to humanitarian service and support for vulnerable communities.

For more than 20 years, Sr. Medhin Tesfay and her fellow sisters, together with their network of staff and volunteers, have been providing essential humanitarian and social services to communities across Tigray. Their work has supported families affected by poverty, conflict, displacement, and other humanitarian challenges.

Working in partnership with Caritas International, the Daughters of Charity have helped vulnerable families meet their basic needs, supported livelihood recovery, repaired wells, and contributed to rebuilding destroyed schools. At the children’s center in Mekelle, children and young people receive shelter, nutritious meals, medical and psychosocial support, and educational opportunities.
