ACSOT Projects

Activities Carried Out to Date

  • An agreement was signed between the British Council and ACSOT on 15th August, 2012. According to the agreement, 30% of the phase was transferred to ACSOT’s account on 16th of October, 2012. According to the same agreement, ACSOT has the obligation to submit a six month report based on the proposal. Hence, the report basically deals on activities planned for the first six months and the finance utilized over the same period.

 

  • The following activities were carried out with member organizations on their progress and objectives:
    1) Ground preparations, such as Woreda office renting and rearrangement, staff reallocation and/or recruitment, and purchase of equipment and furniture.
    2) An assessment was conducted among the woreda Networks, CSSs and Women Groups on their progress and relation with public. Checklist were prepared and distributed to collect information. The main purpose was analyzing and identifying the gaps between the public and our above networks.
    3) Workshops were conducted to familiarize the process at regional level, among implementing partners, executing CSOs and woreda pertinent sectors. This also was helping to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between implementing partners and executing CSOs. The implementing staffs were introduced to sector offices at the woreda level.
    4) Conducted woreda level training to CSOs’ networks on their building capacities. This was included selecting trainers, preparing training materials, selecting CSOs’ and CCCs’ representatives to participate in the training in collaboration with the CSOs’ network executives, organizing venues and other necessary logistical arrangements (such as invitation letters, note-books, LCDs, visibilities).
    5) Conducted training in CSOs’ leadership development, governance, downward accountability and internal resource mobilizations. The training was scheduled for six days which included 4 days for effective training and 2 days for coming and returning (Phase I). And also, an audio and video document was used for the training and concluding report.

 

  • The following action plan was created to work out the main issues which were identified in the Woredas.
    1) Improving CSOs’ network institutional capacity: the operational manuals and necessary guidelines (which include financial manual, administration manual and code of conduct) should be provided to carry out their day to day operations.
    2) Establishing connections between the CSOs’ networks of the woredas, CCCs of the Kebelles and women development groups of the villages.
    3) Planned to conduct monthly meetings at woreda levels to assess existing problems and identify solutions.

 

  • Published Mapping Report of Tigray so to asses the size of CSOs/CBOs operating in the targeted woredas, identify their gap, provide them with necessary technical support  in order to induce their share of responsibility  to the local development process; Gather necessary information of the CSOs/CBOs operating in the area, develop database and file it for future utilization and decision making

 

  • CCRDA/Irish Aid – Tigray HIV/AIDS Forum: The Tigray Partnership Forum on HIV/AIDS was established last year on Jan.2011 with full participation of the GOs and the non state actors including the FBOs, CBOs, NEP+, mass associations, all in all comprising the representatives of the cross sections of the society. This forum is today very active in coordinating activities of HIV/AIDS through the regional steering committee headed by THAPCO with ACSOT acting as its deputy and Mum for Mum as a secretary. With the financial support of the CCRDA/IR, this forum has been able to strengthen the capacity of the members by organizing workshops and experience sharing. In winding up the project the members concluded to further strengthen the regional by creating linkages with the wereda based networked CSOs and the community care coalitions or CCCs based at keble level.

 

  • Compiled and Published a Member Profile of all federally registered ACSOT members.  This profile includes a summary of Mission and Mission Statements, Objectives and partners of each member.

 

  • Developed and Published a 5 year strategic plan that ACSOT Strategic issues as the following;

1. Institutional Strengthening of ACSOT

2. Capacity Building of Member Organizations

3. Diversification of Source Funds

4. Enhance Membership

5. Enhancment of Networking

6. Undertaking Research Activities

7. Promoting the roles of Civil Society Organizations

 

 

 

  • Established essential organizational documents for ACSOT to run efficiently and effective (i.e. Financial & HR Manuals)

 

  • Consultation with CSO/CBOs of all zones in the region conducted. Familiarization amongst CSO/CBO's activities and programs in the region Conducted.

 

  • Established communication mechanisisms to advertise ACSOT to members, partners and international community, as well as an internal communication system for easy dissemination of relevant information to members.

 

  • Developed a Quarterly Newsletter to bring awareness to the world on key issues that ACSOT is involved in quarterly.

Future Plan

  • Experience/knowledge sharing at center woreads’s meetings, 3 times during the project period.

 

  • Establish the GO-CSOs’ network cooperation forum.

 

  • Performance review of the technical team.

 

  • Quality monitoring and reporting of the technical team to the management committees.

 

  • Biannual compiling and reporting to the donor organizations.

 

  • Midterm project review of the project.

 

  • Strengthen the capacity of members organizations, the secretariat staff and the board

 

  • Identify and mobilize internal and external resources.

 

  • Ensure fair distribution of board members from all zones

 

  • Conduct a continuation consultation meeting and expansion of members in all zones.

 

  • Identify Organizations with shared interests and establish networks.
